Brief Project Description:
Professor Evans' laboratory studies high performance computing system dynamics and adaptation. For example, how can performance consistency be achieved and maintained in large distributed computing systems. These systems are composed of subsystems that do not know much about each other. Professor Evans' research in this area seeks to understand the system dynamics and how the subsystems might better interact with each other by coordinated adaptation so the holistic system performs consistently. System dynamics is studied in the context of:

  • Cluster & Grid Computing - the issues relating to systemic consistency focusing on interconnection network performance and management.

  • Advanced data transport algorithms & protocols - More efficient (possibly greedy) ways to move large data sets over distributed networks.
