Linux cluster computing is now a significant tool in research computing, and an upcoming international conference—of which ITaP is a sponsor—will examine the many ways Linux clusters are being put to use.

The Sixth Linux Clusters Institute (LCI) International Conference on Linux Clusters: The HPC Revolution 2005, will be held April 26-28, 2005 , at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill , North Carolina .

Faisal Saied, senior research scientist in ITaP's Discovery Resources, and Purdue's Computing Research Institute, says that the conference is becoming more popular as the trend of using Linux clusters continues to grow. “Linux clusters are used at Purdue for a variety of disciplines, such as nanotechnology, biology, earth sciences, mechanical engineering,” Saied says. “We hope to have several researchers from Purdue submitting papers for consideration for the conference.”

Saied is serving as the program co-chair for applications and software for the conference.

The deadline for submitting papers to the conference is January 7, 2005 . There are later deadlines for tutorial proposals and for presentations.
