Community Climate System Model (CCSM) Portal

The Community Climate System Model (CCSM), developed at NCAR, simulates the earth's climate system by combining comprehensive models of the atmosphere, ocean, sea-ice, and land surface via a centralized coupler. The result is a detailed view of Earth's climate system that enables users to examine variability on multiple spatial and temporal scales. CCSM opens the door to exciting and important research possibilities, from reproducing climates of the distant past, to understanding present-day variability and projecting possible future climate scenarios.

The CCSM web portal aims at lowering the barriers of entry for people into climate modeling by making available a working CCSM installation on the TeraGrid readily accessible via a web interface. This portal allows CCSM users with existing TeraGrid accounts easy access to a working version of the model. Users can setup and run simulations through an easy-to-use web interface without having to individually port and install CCSM and without encountering lower level details such as specifics of batch queues and library locations.
