Caesar is an SGI Altix 4700 system. This large memory SMP design features 128 processors and 512 GB of RAM connected via SGI's high-bandwidth, low-latency NUMAlink shared-memory interface. The extremely large amount of shared memory in this system makes it ideal for jobs where many processors must all share a large amount of in-memory data, and for large parallel jobs, using shared memory for fast communication between processors.
| Number of Nodes | Processor | Cores per Node | Memory per Node | Interconnect | TeraFlops |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 128-Processor 1.6 GHz Intel Itanium 2 | 128 | 512 GB | NUMAlink Shared Memory | 0.8192 |
Caesar also features 33 TB of local scratch disk space.
Caesar runs SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and uses PBSPro 9.x for resource and job management. Operating system patches are applied monthly or as security needs dictate. All nodes have been configured to allow for unlimited stack usage, as well as unlimited core dump size (though disk space and server quotas may still be a limiting factor).
