• I would like to purchase servers for departmental use and will not be part of the Coates cluster. The order website only allows for purchase of the Coates cluster. How can I purchase non-Coates machines?

• I currently own Steele nodes and would like to trade them in for Coates nodes. How should I do this?

  A mailing list is available for you to send out an email potential Steele buyers. You may subscribe to this mailing list by going to: https://lists.purdue.edu/mailman/listinfo/rcac-node-exchange.

  RCAC will work with buyers and sellers to modify PBS job queues on the Steele cluster, create Steele accounts, etc, but the number of nodes to be bought or sold and their price should be determined by the researchers involved and, in the case of nodes purchased with grant funds, Sponsored Programs.

• When is the deadline to place an order?

  There is no deadline for purchasing nodes for the Coates cluster but the first order will most likely go out on the week of May 18^th. More orders will be sent out as we receive them. The prices are fixed for six months and orders will no longer be accepted once the 1280-node limit for the cluster has been reached.

• Why is the cost for the nodes cheaper if they are not part of the Coates cluster?

  As part of the Coates cluster, you will have available a 10GigE connection. An extra $200 is used to offset the additional cost of the 10GigE network card.

• When can I expect my order for non-Coates nodes to be delivered?

  There will be a 4-week lead time from when the order leaves Purdue to when the nodes are expected to arrive.

• When will the Coates cluster be up and running?

  Currently, our projected installation date will be in mid-July 2009. The cluster will be available for use a week after installation because we will be benchmarking the cluster. These dates are subject to change and will be updated as information become available.
