The Rossmann community cluster consists of 19 HP Dual-Processor 2.8 GHz AMD Opteron systems with 16 GB RAM and both Gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband interconnects. Each node has enough memory to run the vast majority of jobs, and the high-speed Infiniband interconnect helps with many communication-bound parallel jobs. Compared to systems like Steele or Caesar, Rossmann nodes have fewer processors per node, meaning that sizable multithreaded programs (parallel codes that do not use MPI) will be a poor fit.
| Number of Nodes | Processor | Cores per Node | Memory per Node | Interconnect | TeraFlops |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 19 | Dual-Processor 2.8 GHz AMD Opteron | 2 | 16 GB | Gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband | 0.213 |
All Rossmann nodes run Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4) and use PBSPro 9.x for resource and job management. Operating system patches are applied monthly or as security needs dictate. All nodes have been configured to allow for unlimited stack usage, as well as unlimited core dump size (though disk space and server quotas may still be a limiting factor).
