Outages are grouped into two classes. Planned outages are scheduled downtimes with at least 4 weeks advance notice. Unplanned outages are system interruptions due to issues such as power, HVAC, network, or emergency maintenance that reduce the number of active nodes to a level below the number of subscribed nodes. Many unplanned outages are avoided by over-provisioning the system to account for regular maintenance.
