Globus is a research management service that puts the power of data at the fingertips of researchers regardless of location or access to resources. Developed by the University of Chicago, Globus allows users to move, share, and discover data no matter where it lives. Thousands of researchers across the world use Globus to access and manage all of their data—including protected data—using only a web browser. RCAC has utilized Globus to great success for over a decade, and is thrilled to offer this GlobusWorld Tour workshop.

The GlobusWorld Tour is a series of workshops designed to educate and assist a variety of users; system administrators who have or plan to deploy Globus at their institution, developers building applications for research, or anyone who is interested in learning more about using Globus for research data management are all welcome and encouraged to participate. The workshop hosted by RCAC will cover:

  • Advanced Globus endpoint configurations.
  • Specific use cases with Globus staff.
  • Globus APIs and how they provide intuitive access to authentication, authorization, sharing, transfer, and synchronization capabilities.
  • How to simply data management with Globus
  • How to use Globus services in research applications
  • And more!

During the workshop, participants will have access to Companion iPython/Jupyter notebooks, which will provide application skeletons that can be adapted to realize their own research data portals, science gateways, and other web applications that support research data workflows. The workshop also provides participants with the opportunity to exchange innovative ideas with peers, experiment with new Globus services, and expand their knowledge of globus administration.

The GlobusWorld Tour workshop is open to any who wish to attend. Those who are especially encouraged to do so include:

  • Researchers, Research Software Engineers (RSEs), research computing facilitators and system admins who are interested in learning more about managing research data.
  • Developers building web applications for research.
  • Anyone interested in learning more about Globus for research data management!
