ITaP Research Computing to host Symposium for Research Data Technology March 1

March 1, 2018  9:00am – 4:00pm
LWSN 1142

As many fields of research become more and more data-intensive, it is increasingly important for researchers to understand how to properly manage and preserve their data.

To help Purdue researchers and the academic IT staff who support them learn more about how best to capture, transfer, share, publish and archive their research data, ITaP Research Computing will host a Symposium for Research Data Technology on Thursday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142.

The event is free and open to anyone in the Purdue community. Those who are planning to attend are asked to RSVP here.

The event will include presentations by Globus, Internet2, I-Light, Purdue Libraries, the Purdue University Research Repository (PURR), and F. Alex Feltus, an associate professor of genetics and biochemistry at Clemson University.

Globus will provide a hands-on workshop demonstrating the powerful and easy-to-use Globus platform for research data management. Representatives from Internet2 and I-Light will speak about Science DMZs, research data networks that are designed specifically for scientific computing, and the challenges of moving, storing and managing large quantities of data over computer networks.

The Purdue Libraries and PURR will discuss data management plans and what steps researchers can take once they are ready to publish and archive their data. Feltus will discuss his project, Scientific Data Analysis at Scale (SciDAS), for researchers who need to process terabytes to exabytes of data.

Staff from ITaP Research Computing will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the different Research Computing resources available to the Purdue community, including the Community Clusters, Purdue’s Research Data Network, Data Depot and Fortress.
