As scientific research becomes increasingly data-intensive, it is critical for researchers to understand how to properly manage and preserve their data.

To help Purdue researchers and the academic IT staff who support them learn more about moving, storing and analyzing the data their experiments generate, ITaP Research Computing will host a Symposium for Research Data Technology on Friday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142. The event is free and open to anyone in the Purdue community. Those who are planning to attend are asked to RSVP here.

The main event at the Symposium will be a “deep dive” focusing on the use of high-speed networks to handle research data. The workshop will be led by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), which is a collaboration between Indiana University and the Energy Sciences Network (ESnet).

EPOC will outline a process to characterize the network requirements of the science being performed, and will demonstrate that process using two Purdue research teams as case studies.

In addition, Globus will provide a hands-on presentation of their data transfer service. Purdue has partnered with Globus to facilitate the transfer of data to and from ITaP Research Computing resources.

Staff from ITaP Research Computing will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the different Research Computing resources available to the Purdue community, including the Community Clusters, Purdue’s Research Data Network, Data Depot and Fortress.
