Women in HPC group to kick off 2017 event series on March 29
Purdue’s Women in High-Performance Computing (WHPC) group will hold its first meeting of the year from noon to 1 p.m. on March 29 in Stewart Center, Room 204. Anyone with an interest in high-performance computing and supporting the advancement of women in the field is welcome to attend.
WHPC is a group of undergraduate, graduate, staff, and faculty women at Purdue who are interested in high-performance computing. The group is part of an ITaP initiative to expose women to opportunities in technology. Based on feedback from those who attended initial meetings last fall, organizers plan to focus this year’s events on invited talks from women in various areas of technology and interactive technical discussions.
The March 29 meeting will feature presentations by Donna Cumberland, Purdue’s executive director of IT academic computing, and Preston Smith, director of research services and support. Cumberland will discuss her experiences in the technology field, and Smith will provide an overview of Purdue’s Research Computing resources, including how to access them and the value they can provide to researchers.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about WHPC’s scholarships, which will help fund student travel to major high-performance computing conferences such as PEARC and SC17, and the group’s mentorship program, which will connect successful women in HPC with those who are at an earlier stage in their careers.
