Fortress HPSS Software Upgrade

  • Maintenance
  • Fortress

Update

The issues with the HPSS upgrade have been resolved with assistance from the vendor and the system is now in normal operations. Anyone using HSI or HTAR from their personal systems will need to upgrade their client to the latest (version 5) client. We are building these packages for all the operating systems we support now, so please download those from our site as soon as possible here: https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/downloads/archive

As always, please email rcac-help@purdue.edu if you encounter any problems. Thank you for your patience while we worked through these difficulties.

Original Message

On Wednesday and Thursday, October 8-9, 2014, the Fortress HPSS archive will be unavailable due to system upgrades.

The system will go offline at 6:00am on Wednesday.

During the maintenance period the system will receive a number of improvements:

  • HPSS software will be upgraded from 7.3.3 to version 7.4.2
  • Among many other enhancements and bug fixes, HPSS Version 7.4.2 is a prerequisite required to support native transfers with Globus.
  • All HPSS servers will be upgraded from Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 5 to version 6.
  • The HPSS core servers will be upgraded to new hardware

During this maintenance, connecting to Fortress via HSI, CIFS, or NFS will not be possible. Please be sure to extract any data that you require in advance of the maintenance window.
