RCAC hosts weekly series of bioinformatics and genomics discussions beginning January 17
Purdue’s Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC) is hosting a new online series of weekly bioinformatics and genomics discussions. The series, Genomics Exchange, offers researchers, graduate students and others interested in genomics and computational biology the chance to discuss foundational and emerging topics in genomics, promote knowledge sharing, and encourage informal networking.
The first meeting will be this Friday, January 17 at 11 am. Interested participants should register here. The theme for the first session will be titled Genome Assembly – Current Best Practices, and will focus on the latest approaches, tools and strategies for generating high-quality genome assemblies.
Each week will feature a brief introduction to a genomics-related topic, led by either RCAC staff or an invited researcher, followed by an open discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring questions, share their experiences and collaboratively explore challenges in genomics.
Future sessions will cover topics including RNA-seq, repeat annotation in genomes, structural variation basics, comparative genomics, metagenomics and phylogenomics, among other topics.
“This initiative aims to enhance bioinformatics education and foster collaborations across diverse disciplines,” says Arun Seetharam, lead bioinformatics scientist for RCAC. “Genomics Exchange will serve as a casual knowledge-sharing hub and a catalyst for generating new research and partnerships.”
