Cloud Data Storage and Transfer Survey

December 1 – 29, 2017

ITaP Research Computing provides a wide variety of data storage services for open science, export controlled research, and controlled unclassified information. These use cases span several storage tiers optimized for active data, collaboration, and long-term archive.

The Purdue Libraries provide PURR for research preservation and data management plans.

However, based on feedback received from faculty in many areas of the University, it has become clear that gaps may exist in the University's offerings to support cloud-based data storage and transfer for easy collaboration, or for working with potentially confidential or HIPAA-aligned research data.

Cloud-based storage solutions include services like Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, or OneDrive.

As the University continues to investigate cloud-based options, we welcome your input and experiences with respect to your cloud-based research data storage and transfer needs.
