Firebox Virtual Server Maintenance

During the regular first-Wednesday Firebox maintenance for November on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, each of the Firebox Virtual Servers will be briefly updated and rebooted within the range of 8:00am – 12:00pm EST. This maintenance will include firewall changes matching those coming for other Research systems on December 3rd, as well as regular operating system package updates.

The new firewall rules will block any direct access to non-web ports on these systems from off-campus addresses. Systems on campus will still be able to connect to SSH, but users off-campus will need to first connect to the Purdue VPN. Once on the VPN, off-campus SSH to these systems will be possible. Web-based access to these will be unaffected for either on-campus or off-campus use.

More information about these new firewalls is available in the December 3rd announcement here: Cancelled: Off-Campus access to Community Clusters to require VPN, BoilerKey
