Bell Scratch Degraded Storage (Returned to Service)

Link to update at June 30, 2022 9:41am EDT UPDATE:

Filesystem verifications are complete and Bell Scratch is operational.

At 8:35am this morning Engineers resumed Job Scheduling on Bell.

We appreciate the efforts of all who have moved data from their scratch space.

Please continue to move all data from scratch that is not currently being utilized in your workflow.

Getting the utilization below 80% will improve filesystem performance for all users. We are still at 88% as of this morning.

We have reduced the purge window from 60 down to 30 days to help free up more space.

More on our purge policy can be found at https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/policies/scratchpurge

For more information on Scratch, please review our user guide at https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/knowledge/bell/storage/options/scratch

We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please report any issues to rcac-help@purdue.edu

At this time, Bell scratch is unavailable.

Some of the mitigation efforts have required a reboot of storage servers which requires filesystem integrity verifications that will run for the next several hours.

We will provide an update by Noon Tomorrow, June 30, 2022

Link to original posting ORIGINAL:

Bell Scratch is near capacity and performance is degraded.

As of this morning, Bell Scratch was 94% full.

This afternoon we paused scheduling as scratch was not responding consistently.

We have more drives on order, but with global supply chain issues, they are a few months out.

We need your help to mitigate the issues in the meantime.

  • Please move any data not currently in use to Data Depot or Fortress for cold storage.
  • The purge window is being reduced to 30 days
  • Bell scratch will be purged of all files not accessed in 30 days on Thursday, July 7th

Engineers are monitoring the space and we will update progress here.

We will update this notice as we learn more.
