Link to update at November 27, 2023 10:00am EST UPDATE:

Final reminder, the Brown Clustrer has reached end of life cycle, and was deommissioned on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023.

Storage on the Brown Cluster, including all /homes, will be permanently removed Wednesday December 6th, 2023. After this date, RCAC STAFF WILL NOT be able to retrieve any data left in the Brown filesystems (scratch, home, etc).

In order to keep your data, you will need to move it to other clusters or Fortress (for archival). Instructions on how to transfer data to Fortress can be found in the Fortress User Guide - File Transfer Section, and you can contact rcac-help@purdue.edu with any questions. You may also use Globus for any data transfer needs you may have.

A reminder that the Brown cluster has reached the end of its life cycle and will be decommissioned on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. (in seven days) We recommend that you complete the process of archiving your data to appropriate storage systems this week: you can use Fortress for long term data archival; data that is used in any ongoing work can be moved to other clusters or Data Depot. Instructions on how to transfer data to Fortress can be found in the Fortress User Guide - File Transfer Section, and you can contact rcac-help@purdue.edu with any questions. You may also use Globus for any data transfer needs you may have.

The Brown cluster has reached the end of its life cycle and will be decommissioned on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

Your access to Brown nodes will be terminated on November 8, however you can still access your files stored on Brown storage until December 6, 2023.

We recommend that you start archiving your data to appropriate storage systems: you can use Fortress for long term data archival, e.g. cold storage of data that you do not need to access in the foreseeable future; data that is used in any ongoing work can be moved to other clusters or Data Depot. Instructions on how to transfer data to Fortress can be found in the Fortress User Guide - File Transfer Section, and you can contact rcac-help@purdue.edu with any questions. You may also use Globus for any data transfer needs you may have.

After Wednesday, December 6th 2023, RCAC STAFF WILL NOT be able to retrieve any data left in the Brown scratch filesystem.

Shares in our latest community cluster, Negishi, are available for purchase now. Negishi has considerable advantages over Brown in many respects -- Negishi nodes contain significantly more processing cores that can be scheduled for jobs, and Negishi will provide greater ability to take advantage of standby scheduling. Each Negishi node contains 256 GB of RAM. In addition, Negishi has faster networking, and a faster and larger scratch filesystem to improve your processing efficiency.

Brown served the community for more than six years. All Brown nodes will be decommissioned and salvaged due to their age. If you currently own nodes on Brown, you may receive a small credit ($100/node) which can be applied towards purchase of Negishi shares. Please contact us at rcac-help@purdue.edu if you have any questions.
