Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC) staff will present papers, lead workshops and participate in panels at the upcoming Practice and Experience in Advanced Research Computing (PEARC) conference, themed “HPC: Human Powered Computing,” which will be held in Providence, R.I. from July 21-25, 2024.

The PEARC conference provides a forum for discussing challenges, opportunities and solutions among the broad range of participants in the research computing community. This community-driven effort builds on successes of the past, and aims to grow and be more inclusive by involving additional local, regional, national, and international cyberinfrastructure and research computing partners spanning academia, government and industry.

Erik Gough, senior research scientist, will present his paper “Evaluation of Kubernetes Schedulers for a Community Cloud Computing Model” on July 23 at 11:50 a.m. EDT as part of the Systems and System Software track.

Guangzhen Jin, Eric Adams, Ruyi Li, Haniye Kashgarani and Nannan Shan will present their paper “Behind the Scenes: How We Support User Support at an HPC Center” on July 23 at noon, as part of the Abstract Submissions track.

Kashgarani will present her paper “Combinatorial Optimization by Automated Selection of Parallel Portfolios” on July 24 at 11:20 a.m. as part of the Abstract Submissions track.

I Luk Kim, Lan Zhao and Carol Song will present their paper “Japper: A Comprehensive Framework for Streamlining Jupyter-Based Scientific Web Application Development” on July 24 at 3:00 p.m. as part of the Applications and Software track.

Jaewoo Shin, Zhao and Song will present their paper “Integrating ML/AI Workflows in a Streaming Data Management and Processing Platform for Building Energy Research” on July 24 at 3:30 p.m. as part of the Applications and Software track.

RCAC staff members will also lead the following workshops at PEARC24:

  • Gough and Rajesh Kalyanam, along with collaborators from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Indiana University and the University of California San Diego, will co-lead the BoF “Best Practices for Kubernetes Security Policy on Composable Clouds” on July 23 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Song is co-leading a BoF “Fantastic ACCESS Cyberinfrastructure Resources and Where to Find Them” on July 24 at 4:45 p..m.

Laura Theademan and Suzanna Gardner will host a panel “The Vital and Diverse Roles and Expertise in Cyberinfrastructure” on July 24 at 3 p.m., along with collaborators from other universities.

Many RCAC staff members are also involved in conference leadership. Adams is the technical program co-chair, Geoffrey Lentner is the proceedings chair, Theademan is the exhibitors co-chair, Shan is the co-chair of the panels committee and Gardner and Amanda Warren-Glowe are on the student program committee.
