Fortress Archive Upgrade

  • Maintenance
  • Fortress

As of 11:55 pm August 18, 2015, Fortress/HPSS has been brought back online.

Storage engineers continue working on bringing upgraded Fortress up and deploying new software to all RCAC systems.

Current estimate for return to service: 12:00 am August 19.

Storage and system admins are hard at work to complete Fortress upgrade. The upgrade is expected to finish by 8:00pm today (8/18).

This maintenance has been postponed to Aug 18 due to its dependence on the completion of internal data migration operations.

The Purdue data archiving service, Fortress, will be unavailable on July 15th, 2015, from 8:00AM to 6:00PM.

During this time, both hardware and software upgrades will be performed:

  • 2 new servers will be put into production
  • Metadata operations will be moved to SSD for increased performance
  • Disk cache will be upgraded to have more (2.5X) capacity and
  • HPSS software will be upgraded from version 7.4.2.1 to 7.4.3.2

As this downtime includes a database upgrade, all access to Fortress will be unavailable during the downtime.

Please note that the new version of HPSS software (7.4.3.2) is NOT compatible with older HSI/HTAR binaries. Users will need to update these tools to continue accessing Fortress after the maintenance. Please visit the download page to get the new binaries after the upgrade.

Any questions can be directed to RCAC Help at rcac-help@purdue.edu.
